A mosaic of love…

keeping me from blogging

These feet have been keeping me from blogging lately. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

all you need is

Today is my birthday. Bastille Day. Lucky me. Nothing beats a handmade card, especially one like this. My youngest made it for me back in Toronto and carefully snuck it into her suitcase. The necklace my oldest made from bottle glass she collected from the beach here in Barbados.

happy canada day

I stumbled upon this in the July 6, 2009 issue of Macleans magazine while sitting in my dentist’s office last Thursday. Written by Jonathon Gatehouse, the article explains ever so statistically why Canada is the best place on earth to live. Is there really such a thing as Best Place on Earth? What I found quite amusing is that as Canadians, we are not too big on tooting our own horn. So this piece naturally caught me off guard. It made me feel rather proud to be Canadian… Happy Canada Day!

blue skies smiling at me

Alas, life sometimes gets in the way of blogging daily. I have been busy getting summer plans in order. This summer I am doing something I have not done since ’92. I am spending the entire summer in my hometown of beautiful Barbados. A lot has changed in 17 years. For one, I will not be alone. I will be joined by my three kids who are absolutely ecstatic. Who wouldn’t be? Our last family trip to Barbados was 3 1/2 years ago for Christmas. Even that is long for me.

As for my loopylocks shop, I will enlist my husband on shipping duty in Toronto. Sadly, he will only make it down to join us for two of those weeks. In the meantime, I plan on posting from the sunny south coast of Barbados. Stay tuned… nothing but blue skies do I see.

happy mother’s day

My daughter made this for me for Mother’s Day. She alternated the buttons so that the bracelet is reversible, like loopylocks. How clever. It is so comfortable to wear. I adore it. Thank you, Darling!happy mother's day

no more excuses

There are two things I don’t do: ice skate or ride a bike. Not knowing how to ice skate when you live in Canada is like treason. I have always slipped by using the excuse: I was born and raised in Barbados, why should I? I have skated three times in my life, none of them with much success. Yes I can ride but I don’t own a bike. In fact, the last time I rode was on a rental bike at Stanley Park, B.C. 19 years ago. It does not help that my husband is an avid biker, weekly hockey player and my kids nag constantly that I am no fun. Not any more….

no more excuses

Out of the grace of my generous neighbour who is moving house. Voila! One lady’s trash = another lady’s treasure. Now what on earth am I gonna do with no more excuses?

mini surprise

I snapped this photo on the 401 driving West at 8:37am. My husband was driving and saw it a short distance up ahead. I simply could not resist. What a pleasant surprise on a beautiful, sunny Sunday. My Papa used to drive a red Mini station wagon when I was a little girl. I love the gold rims that match the body. I also love that I captured the word “Home” behind it. Thought I would share it with you… just because.
